(intro music) some series need another chance to tie up those loose ends welcome to watchmojo.com and today we'll be counting down our picks for the "top ten anime that need a sequel" for this list, we considered a handful of series that are in desperate need of a sequel or a decent reboot we also took in series into account that have had additional seasons that have been widely considered disappointing or resulted in an incomplete story number 10: "high school of the dead" (zombie gets run over by a bus) what happens when you combine zombies with a whole lot of fan service? you wind up with our very first entry
(gun shots) the series follows a group rather well-developed high school students as they try to survive the zombie apocalypse. while the series is able to get a solid groundwork for the groups' survival story in a mere 13 episodes. and a single ova episode fans are still left wanting a satisfying conclusion pretty please with sugar on top? ugh will the group survive? will takashi finally close the deal?
we may never know you don't know? seriously, i don't know number 9: "no game, no life" some people take gaming a little to far this ever-popular series follows step siblings sora and shiro two gamers that make up the undefeated persona know as "blank" the duo are able to triumph over the god of games in a chess duel so they are sent to a world revolving around games known as "disboard" to eventually usurp him
the first season is widely praised by the general anime community for its fantastic storytelling and visual art style a second season is not out of the question though as a rather vocal fan base and an open ending can change the future of the series number 8: "the devil is a part timer" just a reminder, we're in public so stop acting like a psycho. the devil doesn't always come to earth to cause mischief. sometimes, he just wants to get away from it all. i will be the one who breaks the sales record for black pepper fries! he ah!!! in his comedic story, we follow a reluctant satan and his loyal henchmen as they are forced to survive in a modern day tokyo after being driven away from their home. haaaaaa!
survival requires cash. and eventually he finds himself a job as a fast food employee at the local mcgronald fast food chain while the series concluded after only 1 season the light novels are still ongoing so maybe you can look for more fast-food adventures with satan yea, she's cool. i think you'd like her. (yells) your neighbor's a sheep?! why are you yelling? there is no reason for yelling! number 7: "panty and stocking with garterbelt hey stocking. what is it panty? you ready to roll?
(car engine starts) a series where ladies transform their lingerie into weapons? need we say more? this popular surrealist comedy follows panty and stocking. two fallen angels known as the anarchy sisters. that have been cast out and must buy their way back into heaven by using their powers to kill ghosts let's rock (music plays) with only 13 episodes in the first season, there is no way the sisters' trials and tribulations could be wrapped up that quickly. i never knew that there were so many different accents hey, you're the one who likes to hang out in the sewer after all, it had what is probably the biggest cliffhanger ending in history
i'm sorry, but surprise. i'm actually a demon number 6: 'nichijou" in this unusual slice of life, we follow an ensemble cast of characters, including students mio naganahara, yuko ioi, and a robot named nanoshinaobe as they live out their strange and mundane lives (explosion noises) this series doesn't so much focus on a complete narrative as it does on character driven comedy. while the series has a massive appeal to western audiences, it failed to capture the attention of the native japanese market resulting in poor sales across the board. so unfortunately, it's kinda unlikely we'll see another season. number 5: "a certain magical index"
it's time for that age old question, science or magic this series throws us head-first into academy city a place filled with powerful individuals known as espers that possess bizarre abilities life is strange enough before magic users turn up on the scene bringing their own conflicts it's then up to our lovable protagonist, toma kamijo, who can negate other powers and his own luck with his right hand to make things right. while the series has spawned 2 seasons and the spinoff "a certain scientific railgun". fans eagerly await the conclusion of the war between magic and science number 4: "spice and wolf" (yells) get up now! what are you doing in my wagon, anyway?!
this adventure series tells the story of a traveling merchant craft lawrence and his companion holo as they look to increase their riches traveling around the world i am holo the wise wolf. and i am a very proud wolf. "spice and wolf" quickly became a hit over its two seasons with the anime community as it stays away from the traditional swords and stabs fantasy tropes that flood the genre focusing more on economics. so this is the silver coin in question? yes. it's a pretty trustworthy currency in this area. unfortunately, since the original light novel story finished quite a while ago, it might be to late to revive the anime.
so you say. you can't get mad at me if they don't. so you say. i'm not kidding! number 3: "kaiji: ultimate survivor" speaking of the economy. let's have a look at the darker side that is gambling. we follow our protagonist kaiji a gambling addict that participates in high stakes games to stay outta debt. running for two seasons as well as two live-action adaptations kaiji treats anime fans to a dark and sometimes gruesome side of then art of gambling. though we'd be more than happy to get an adaptation of any of fukimoto's other works, kaiji sits high on our priority list.
number 2: "the melancholy of haruhi suzumiva" the name of the here to four nameless startup club, has just been decided it's name is the s.o.s. brigade! why don't we start wrapping things up on a lighter note? this mega-successful franchise follows kian and haruhi suzumiva two high school students who form a school club to investigate all the things that go bump in the night you're saying that's haruhi? from millennia, people have referred to such an entity as god or some something similar based on the monumentally popular light novels, this has spawned 2 canon and parody seasons as well as a full-length movie to support the original source material
the anime skyrocketed sales of the light novel upon release but has since dropped over 80% even with the addition of new material has to much time passed for a sequel? we'd hate to admit it... what are you an idiot? before we begin longing for our top sequel, here are a few honorable mentions: "welcome to irabu's office" aka "trapeze" (2009) bleach (2004-12) yakua! you gotta stop doing that! if you keep it up you're gone get me killed to!
i warned you that you were in the way "claymore" (2007) "deadman wonderland" (2011) number 1: "baccano!" seems like immortality can be kind of an inconvenience. the formula is finally perfected in this crime series, we follow a monumental cast of characters form petty thieves and alchemists to friendly and murderous gangsters as they unravel the mystery behind an immortal elixir. (giggles) i think i really like this one miza. it's perfect for me
with an unprecedented story and memorable characters, it's no wonder that it left fans wanting for the other volumes to be adapted too. while it is unfortunate that a second season may not be on the horizon due to the recent completion of the mega-successful "doo rah rah rah" we can dream right? ha! good match! now wipe those tears away and dine with us! do you agree with our list? go ahead. please don't hold yourself back on my account. what's your favorite anime series that needs a sequel? for more sequential top tens published everyday, be sure to subscribe to watchmojo.com
