are you afraid? i sat down at my computer one night to searchout a rom game. i wanted to play yoshi�s story on the n64,but the console wouldn�t start up. i had a bad itch to play the game, so i downloadedan emulator and rom. what i expected out of the rom was to seethe yoshi�s and the playful atmosphere i was used to. that is not at all what i experienced. i loaded up the rom and the screen went blackfor the longest time. once it finally loaded, or whatever it wasdoing, the title screen came up.
instead of getting the theme song of the yoshi�ssinging, i got something horrifying. it sounded like the mario 64 theme sped upor backwards. it was extremely creepy. the title screen was a black background. an image of princess peach faded in slowlyas the chaotic music played. i hated the music. even today, i still hear it. as peach faded through the background, i noticedsomething wrong. her eyes were missing and she had a scarysmile.
being a gamer who likes to push gaming limits,i made the bad decision to hit enter and continue the game. the game started. all the graphics were the same, but insteadof playing as a yoshi, i saw peach. her eyes were still gone, but she was nowholding a knife. i wondered why i was seeing this. this wasn�t yoshi�s story. i controlled peach through this long path. at first, it looked just like the first level.
then, as i kept going, the level faded intoa burning dark world version of the level. the walls had yoshi�s pinned to them. i looked a little closer at one of them. it was a green yoshi that had his tongue wrappedaround his neck and tied to a burning tree. i kept moving peach to the right. the background changed into creepy versionsof each level. there were no enemies or bosses. instead of passing the bone dragon, i passedby a pile of half-skinned yoshi skeletons. i thought to myself that someone had gonepsycho and took a good game and destroyed
it. this was way too far. why would someone recreate the entire gameto make it like this? this was sick! what if a child looking to download this gotahold of it? after i got over the pile of dead yoshi�s,i continued. peach came up to a dead end. the dead end contained a table with a darkblue yoshi on it. the yoshi was struggling to get off the tableit was strapped to.
peach moved along without my input. she moved over to the table with the yoshion it and pulled up her knife. she started sawing pieces off the poor yoshias it cringed. the yoshi cried as it was being mutilatedin the worst way. peach hacked away at the yoshi and i sat therein horror cringing. it looked bad enough in the graphics it wasin. the horror on the yoshi�s face as it fadedaway into death was realistic. it was sickening. peach wasn�t like that.
peach doesn�t murder innocent yoshi�s. i tried to shut the emulator down but it wouldn�tallow me to. peach turned to the screen and a text boxpopped up on the screen. it said �randy, don�t you want to playsome more?� i was shocked! the game knew my name! even worse was that i didn�t use my nameon this computer or on the internet. the only place that name really exists ison my id. how did this game know my real name?
i hit the power button on my laptop and heldit down until the screen went off. i turned the power back on. my laptop reached the desktop and the emulatoropened right back up. it loaded up like i�d never even turnedthe power off. thank god i decided to play in windowed mode,so i decided to run a program that could get rid of the game. it failed. i tried one last thing. i went into the folder that contained thegame and deleted the entire game rom file.
